Petition to Redress Grievances

We, the undersigned, have the misfortune of having been employed at the Post Office together. Our own experience and that of others lead us to believe it to be quite consistent with the practices prevailing at the General Post Office, St Martins le Grand, to tap at the Department windows for necessary information and correspondence expected to be lying there.

Notwithstanding the questionable decision of the presiding Magistrate, who heavily augmented the charge libelled and improver, as shown by the accompanying copy of the Police Summons, we are led to believe that our grievances are not without merit.

We respectfully and confidently seek to effect redress of our grievances complained of at the hands of the authorities.

We have the honor to be,

Right Honorable Sir,

Your Most Obedient Servant:

John Smith, Dr. Howe, Sun & Magers.

For "tapping at the Post Office window" creating disturbance, the Petitioners were fined and Magistrate's judgment was aggrieved & an appeal for redress was made.

The appeal was forwarded to the Governor.

With forms 497, 5841, 5331, and 186, the Petitioners abound with those who suffered similarly.

  1. The Secretary of State was also informed of the matter.

The late decision of the Magistrate infuriated the Petitioners, who allege that the Magistrate failed to obtain the Code obliging the complainant to be present before making a decision against the dissension.

  1. The Supreme Court was petitioned by the Petitioners, who then professed the above.
